Winona Murray, 62, of 118 Morton Rd, daughter of the late Jesse Murray and the late Lillie Harmon Murray, passed away March 22, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Winona was a graduate of Greenwood High School, Class of 1980. She was, also, a graduate of Lander University and earned her Master’s Degree from Clemson University. Winona worked at the Social Security Office in Greenwood until her health started to fail. Winona has been a long-time member of Glovers Chapel Baptist Church in Troy, South Carolina.
Winona was joy to those who knew her. She had such a beautiful smile that lit up a room and an infectious laugh. Winona loved the Lord, and she loved her family.
In addition to her parents, Winona was preceded in death by her twin sister, Wyoming Murray, as well as her sisters Jessie Mae Hill, Eloise Tate, Elease Murray; nephew Darin Lyons; brothers-in-law Reverend Herman Lyons and Walter Hill, Sr.; sister-in-law Josie Wideman. Winona is survived by her brother Clyde Wideman of Greenwood, SC; her sisters Shirley Murray of Bradley, SC and Doris Lyons of Troy, SC. Reared in the home with Winona were her niece Tara (Glenn) Murray-McCier of Abbeville, SC and her nephews Kevin Tate of Greenwood, SC, Jacob (Ebony) Tate of Burlington, NC, and Jerome (Wanda) Murray of Greenwood, SC. Winona is, also, survived by her niece Mary (Rodney) Wideman-Williams of Seattle, WA. Winona was the Godmother to her great niece, Cahshauna Murray whom she called Dominique and her great nephew, Chavis Murray. Winona loved her godchildren and spoke about them with pride. In addition, Winona is survived by a special uncle, Charlie Myles and honorary aunt, Zola Wright, 12 great nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Services will be held, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Glovers Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Boyce officiating and Reverend Johnny Waller presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
