William T. Thompson, affectionately known as “Doug” and nicknamed “Badcat,” age 77, of 132 Eric Drive, Laurens, South Carolina, entered peacefully into eternal rest on October 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Ninety Six, South Carolina, Doug was the son of the late Jesse and Mary Thompson. He grew up on Little Mountain Road in Ninety Six and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1966, where he was voted Mr. Popular. Following graduation, Doug attended Piedmont Technical College before proudly serving his country in the United States military during the Vietnam War. A proud veteran, he carried his service with honor throughout his life.
Doug was a man of strong faith who studied the Kingdom diligently. He believed deeply in God, cherished his Bible study, and walked in grace and humility.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud “Pa Pa Doug.” Gentle, soft-spoken, and kindhearted, Doug was known for always putting others before himself. He found joy in cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys, and in his quiet moments, he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and other classic cowboy shows.
Doug was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Robinson and Cynthia Blocker; three brothers, Jesse Thompson Jr., Marvin Thompson, and Willie Mayes; and two granddaughters, Keundra Smith and Serenti Coates.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife of 36 years, Jeanella Thompson of the home; two daughters, Teresa Thompson of Pineville, N.C., and Alicia Thompson of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, William (Cheryl) Thompson Jr. of Simpsonville, S.C., and Leslie Thompson of Greenwood, S.C.; one bonus son, Reginald Austin of the home; one sister, Barbara (Milledge) Morton of Greenwood, S.C.; three brothers, James (Betty) Thompson and Carl Thompson of Ninety Six, S.C., and Harold (Gwen) Thompson of Greenwood, S.C.; one aunt, Bobbie Holloway of Ninety Six, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Doug’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
