Deacon & Sergeant Tommy Childs, 83 last and final assignment was completed on this side of heaven on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at the Charlie Norwood Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, Ga. When our Heavenly Father gave him the last command “Attention”, thou Good and Faithful Servant. Our Father then said, stand “At Ease” your earthly work has been completed. Tommy, you are now “Dismissed” my son.
He made his grand entrance into this world on January 11,1941. He is the son the late Key and Lessie Richardson Childs. He is known to family as T.C.
He was a faithful, dedicated and devoted member of Jacob Chapel Baptist Church in which he served as a past Trustee and was appointed and anointed as a Deacon until his passing.
Deacon Tommy’s LAST wish was that he wanted to make a difference and display God’s love in children’s lives that were less fortunate in a tangible way. He purchased and donated 40 coats for children of all ages to ensure that they were warmed and felt the love of God all the way from his hospital bed.
He retired from South Land Mobile Homes. He loved to fish, read, ride and listen to music. He loved his church, Jacob Chapel and his family more. He graduated from Brewer High School Class of 1959. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army to further his career and skills. He faithfully served in the Vietnam War as an Infantryman.
He was preceded in death by two Brothers: Nathaniel “Bud” Childs and John Henry Childs, one Sister: Clara Lee Childs-Cooley, One Faithful Aunt: Willie Mae Thackston He leaves behind one loving and devoted sister, Marie Jefferson of Colorado Springs, CO and a loving, devoted and dedicated brother, Charles (Edith) Childs of Greenwood, SC. Niece: Darlene (Anthony) Green, Linda (Lorenzo) Brown. Nephews: Ronnie (Dondra) Childs, Mark (Dee) Cooley, Jerome (Sabrina) Childs, Larmont Childs. He leaves and cherishes a host of grand nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be held, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Noon, at Jacob Chapel Baptist church, Rev. Jerry Brown, Pastor and Officiating, burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Monday, March 24, 2025, from 1-6 PM at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
