Mrs. Ruby Munnerlyn Wise was born on September 13, 1934, and departed this life on December 31, 2022, after a long battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. Ruby was the daughter of the late Abraham Keen and Phibbie Long Munnerlyn. Momma (Nanny) grew up in a small community often referred to as Fleet and later known as Fleming Town. In addition to Ruby’s parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Allen, Habword, and McLeod Munnerlyn and her sisters, Gardenia Davis, and Sadie Bell Allison.
Ruby began her education in the Pamplico Public Schools. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Allen University. She met her husband, the late Rudolph Valentino Wise, Sr, while attending college and they were married on June 21, 1957. After moving to Greenwood with her husband, she served 30+ years as a math teacher with Greenwood School District #50. At an early age she attended Saint Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Most importantly, she was a servant of God. She was a longtime member of Weston Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and was a Sunday School Teacher, Stewardess, Trustee, Class Leader, Women’s Missionary Society (Life Member), the Lay Organization, Senior Choir and Finance Committee. She served as a representative of the A.M.E. Church to include Abbeville Greenwood District, Piedmont Conference Women’s Missionary Society (President), Parliamentarian for the 7th Episcopal District, and attended several General Conferences.
She leaves to morn her passing, two sons, Rudolph Valentino Wise, Jr. (Darlene) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Ruben Sebastian Wise, Sr. (Regina) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; one daughter Ruchelle Wise Ellison (Sidney) of Chapin, South Carolina; eight grandchildren: Kelly, Tyler, Ruben Jr., Jessica, Ryen, Bionca, Jennifer and Rikiah; nine great-grandchildren; One sister: Eva Mae Pinckney; three sisters-in-law: Yvonne Munnerlyn, Inez Munnerlyn, and Helen Munnerlyn; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and family and friends to mourn her passing.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Weston Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by Rev. Furman M. Miller Jr. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. Please be mindful and practice social distancing and wear a mask.
