Mae Helen Nelson Sprowl, 77, wife of James Richard Sprowl, departed this walk of life on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare. Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Elijah Nelson Sr. and Bessie Lee Settles Nelson.
Mae Helen was a faithful member of Mount Herman Baptist Church and a devoted member of the WHEC Club, President of the Mt. Hermon Missionary Ministry for 40 years and was an active member of the Springfield Baptist Singing Convention. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Tara Sprowl.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her devoted husband, James Richard Sprowl of the home; one son, Fitzgerald “Fitz” Sprowl of the home; and two grandchildren, Camryn A. Sprowl of the home and Darius Jamison of Columbia, South Carolina; three brothers, Robert E. (Emma) Nelson Jr., Charlie C. Nelson, and Ralph Nelson, all of Greenwood; three sisters, Mamie L. Wright, Shirley E. Palmore, and C. Claudette Posley, all of Greenwood and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mount Herman Baptist Church, with Reverend Eric Davis, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Robinson & Son Mortuary, with family visitation from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
