Leroy Smith

Leroy Smith was born in Abbeville, SC February 20, 1947 and deceased on January 16, 2026 at Self Memorial Hospital Greenwood SC.  He was the son of the late Harold and Johnnie Mae Crawford Smith.   

Leroy was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E, Donalds, SC, where he served as a former Trustee and Sunday School attendant, maintenance and landscaper. He was employed at Monsanto in Greenwood, SC, he later became a carpenter building houses and was later employed at Little River Electric Company where he retired after 25 years of service.  He served as a huge community advocate and love to help others.

Leroy was a devoted husband and father to his children. He was a great provider.  He loved to hunt, fish, play different sports, travel, grilling, making others laugh and spending time with his family.  He had a genuine love and compassion for people.  He loved to host family gatherings and always welcomed others to enjoy a wonderful atmosphere.  Leroy's wisdom and knowledge he shared with others were remarkable.  His resilience to handle any situation was impeccable.   

He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife "56" years, Mentha Lee Aiken Smith of the home; two sons, Reggie (Alpha Omega) Smith of Ninety Six, SC and Jonathan Smith Due West, SC, one daughter, Priscilla Smith of Orlando Fl, one brother Andrew (Doreen) Smith of NC, two sisters Catherine Towns of Summerset NJ, Dorothy Payne of Far Rockaway NY, 7 grandchildren Reggie (Shakira) Calvin Smith of VA, Jonathan Dashawn Smith and Nicholas Isaiah Smith of Greenville SC, Elijah Omari and Atarah Janae Smith of Anderson SC, Shakira (Curtis) Burton of Charlotte, NC and James (Cydni) Mitchell of Columbia SC, two great grandchildren J'Nylah Danielle Smith and Gabriella Saniya Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Mt. Zion A.M.E. 845 Gilgad Church Road, Donalds, SC 29638, conducted by Rev. Melton Aiken.  Viewing will be from 1:00-6:00 PM.
