James Brown Obituary

Born on January 19, 1939, in Newberry County, SC, James was the son of the late Lucy Jessie and Willie James Brown.

He was a member of Scurry Spring Hill Baptist Church in Chappells, SC. James worked faithfully for 35 years at Richtex Brick Company in Ninety-Six, SC, where he was known for his strong work ethic and quiet dedication. In his younger years, he was celebrated for his talent on the baseball field—a sport he loved dearly. In his later years, watching baseball became his favorite pastime.

James was the eldest of eleven siblings. He was preceded in death by four brothers—Willie, Joe Lewis, John Earl, and Curtis—and three sisters: Bobbie Jean and twins Annette and Jeanette.

He leaves behind to celebrate his life two sisters: Bettie (Charles) Smith of Detroit, MI, and Sara (Johnny) Leaks of Greenwood, SC; and one brother, Calvin (Karen) Brown of Columbia, SC. He is also fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifelong and faithful friend, Barbara Ann Williams of Ninety-Six, SC.
