Howard Mathis Obituary

Greenwood, SC- Howard Mathis, 92, of 380 New Market Street, departed this walk of life on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Magnolia Manor. Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, he was the son of the late P.C. Mathis and the late Anica Chiles Mathis. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a Trustee in the past. He was a member of Mason Lodge #310, a Veteran of the United States Army, an airplane mechanic, and retired from Parke Davis. He is preceded in death by two brothers, B.J. Mathis Sr. and Bennie Mathis Sr.; seven sisters, Minnie Mathis Hart, Peggy Mathis Turner, Sarah Mathis Klugh, Dorothy Mammie Lyn Mathis, Marie Mathis, Susie Mathis, and Nannie Mathis Fisher; one nephew, Charles Fisher.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Vernon Gaskin of New York and Decarlos Wardlaw of Georgia; one daughter, Clarissa Partlow of Georgia; one brother, Charles (Matilda) Mathis of Greenwood, SC; one sister, Virginia Watson of Greenwood, SC; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one nephew and four nieces reared in the home, Jason (Cassie) Mathis, of Virginia, Shirley Mathis, Sandra Burton, Wendy (Vincent) Johnson, and Jasmine Mathis, one great-nephew, Ethan Vickery all of Greenwood, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Beulah Baptist Church, conducted by Archbishop Emanuel Spearman. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Robinson and Son Mortuary, Inc. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
