Mrs. Helen Grace Childs Calhoun transitioned on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at NHC in Greenwood, SC. Born in Greenwood County, the daughter of the late Dorthus and Sammie Lee Turner Childs. She was raised in Friendship Baptist Church in Ninety-six, SC and became a devoted lifetime member. She served wherever and whenever she was needed, Sunday School, Deaconess, Usher, Choir, Secretary, etc.
Mrs. Calhoun attended Ninety-six schools and received a educator’s certificate from Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC. She taught kindergarten at Ninety-six Elementary for 30 plus years. Her kind and nurturing spirit made her the most loved 1st teacher for many students. Mrs. Calhoun was also a member of the Pyracantha Garden Club of Ninety-six, SC.
Mrs. Calhoun married the love of her life, David Ernest Calhoun who preceded her in death in 1996. Their marriage created a dual membership with Friendship and Bethlehem Baptist Church. Their love for the Ninety-six community was evident in their work and the community reciprocated love to them.
Mrs. Calhoun also is preceded in death by her brother, Calvin ‘Dicky Boy’ Childs. She leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Vivian Childs of Charlotte, NC; one sister-in-love, Forestean Calhoun Lewis, one son, Gilbert Reid {Saundra} Calhoun; two daughters, Freda Lavern {James} Simpson and Becky Lynn {Sammy} Robinson. 6 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grands, 2 Great-Great Grands, many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Friendship Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Anthony Sims. Viewing will be 1-6 P.M. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
