Dwayne Keith Laster, Sr., 57, of 1234 Ninety-Six Highway, husband of Avis Simon Laster, departed this walk of life on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Self Regional Healthcare, after spending over 30 years in Greenwood, prior to his death. He was born on May 7, 1968, in Americus, Georgia, to the late Robert Laster and to the late Jena Ann Ladd. Receiving his education in the public schools of Americus, Georgia, he was a 1986 graduate of Americus High School and enlisted to the U.S. Army, 10 days after his high school graduation. He went to basic training at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, SC and AIT at Ft. Gordon, Georgia in the field of communications. Dwayne served for about 6 years in the Army. He then returned to Americus and became a Police Officer for the City of Americus. He worked for 2 years before becoming a Detective under Commander Nelson Brown and Sgt. Calvin Mansfield.
Leaving Americus in July of 1995, he moved to South Carolina for a career change and started working at FUJI Film here in Greenwood. He met Avis Channell Simon and married her in 2010. To this union, two sons were born, Dwayne Keith Laster, Jr. and the late DeAndre Kentrel Laster, both of whom were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Nathaniel Simon and a mother-in-law, Dorothy Fuller Simon.
He leaves to mourn him, his wife of the home; his son, Dwayne Keith Laster, Jr. of the home; a special nephew, Demarious T. Bryant of the home; the best brother ever, Kenneth Earl Hamilton of Americus, GA; his mother-in-law, Suzette Dale; his special friends, Stephon Milledge, Larry Milledge, Chris Walton and a child of God, Rev. (BoBo) George Frank Monts, Jr. and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services are 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Chapel of Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc., Burial will follow in the Evening Star Cemetery. Public viewing will be from 1:00-6:00 pm on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Robinson & Son Mortuary. The family is at the home. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
