Clara Pope Reed best known as “Big Ma” was born May 25th, 1913, in Newberry County to the parents of the late Eli and Bessie Carter Pope. She was the widow of George Reed. On the late night of Thursday, February 19, 2026, she transitioned to her heavenly home. Clara attended public school and worked for Greenwood Mop and Broom Factory for many years. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Clara was a pillar in the world and in her community. She enjoyed cooking, flowering, and loved all animals. She had an affectionate smile and loved everyone she came in contact with. Clara prioritized family and friendships, consistently demonstrating a willingness to go the extra mile for her loved ones. She loved everyone and in return was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Willie, Melvin, Lonnie and Maxie Pope. Her sons, George Reed Jr., John Reed, James Henry Reed, Russell Reed and her daughter Geneva Speach. Also preceded in death, her grandsons Steaveon Reed and Lourenzion Dequan Turman and a great-grandson Brayden Reed. Her daughter in-laws Dorothy and Wynette Reed.
She leaves to cherish so many memories, a son that grew up in the home Oliver Pope (Theresa). She leaves behind many grandchildren. A devoted and loving grandson/care giver Rick Reed and his sons Jacayden and Kase Reed of the home. A host of great-grandchildren. A daughter-in-law Gloria Reed. Four special nieces Clara Scott, Maxine Pope, Emma Suber and Magnolia Branch. A special nephew Jonnie Ray Pope. A loving caregiver, Rebecca Butler.
Services will be 12:00 P.M. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Springfield Baptist Church on Laurens Highway. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be from 1-6 P.M. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
